Towage

Boskalis has transferred its harbour towage and terminal services activities to joint ventures. Our colleagues provide assistance to incoming and outgoing oceangoing vessels in ports as well as providing services to onshore and offshore terminals.

Harbour Towage

Our colleagues at Keppel Smit Towage, Saam Smit Towage and KOTUG SMIT Towage provide assistance to incoming and outgoing vessels in the world’s biggest ports. While towing a vessel like a 292-meter long bulk carrier with a gross tonnage of over 92,000 tonnes might look impressive, it’s all in a day’s work for our crews. Every day they carry out dozens of similar jobs in major ports all around the world. Naturally our crews have state-of-the-art tugboats at their disposal. As well as bulk carriers we assist vessels such as ro-ro ships, oil and chemical tankers, container ships and reefer vessels. Together with our joint venture partners we operate a fleet of more than 450 vessels and provide harbour towage services in over 90 ports in 35 countries.

Terminal Services

Through Smit Lamnalco (50% Boskalis-owned) we provide an all-round package of services aimed at onshore and offshore terminals. The core activity is support during the berthing and unberthing of oil and gas tankers. Additional activities include:

  • pilotage
  • subsea inspection and maintenance
  • coupling and uncoupling of terminal connections
  • firefighting
  • escorting
  • crew and cargo transportation
  • operating bunker vessels
