ALESSIO IS MAKING HIS MARK AS A FLEET MANAGEMENT TRAINEE

Alessio Wubben

What inspires me to work at Boskalis?

During his Boskalis traineeship, Alessio Wubben (25 years old) is finding his way within three different parts of the company: the Central Fleet Support department, the Offshore Energy division and the Dredging division. “I’m amazed by the amount of responsibilities you get as a trainee, this really is a great way to start your career in the fast lane.”

After his education in marine technology, Alessio started working for an engineering firm in the yachting industry. Alessio: “I learned a lot there, but decided I wanted to work on more functional marine engineering. I want to make an impact by contributing to the energy transition and global infrastructure. Enrolling in the Boskalis traineeship seemed like the perfect way to start realizing these ambitions.”

Central Fleet Support

He started his traineeship at Central Fleet Support. “It was very interesting to be part of a vessel modification project in Singapore”, Alessio says. “Lengthening our hopper dredger ‘Prins der Nederlanden’ from 156 to 201 meters was quite something. It was challenging, being new to the business and taking on such big responsibilities. But at the same time, I got all the support I needed to perform my tasks and develop my professional skills. The frequent contact with other Boskalis trainees was also very supportive. We really understand each other.”

Offshore Energy

“My second traineeship period was at the Offshore Energy division”, Alessio continues. “I worked on multiple projects and really got a taste of how diverse Boskalis’ offshore fleet is. I gained experience in dry docking an anchor handling tug for an intermediate survey (scheduled maintenance) in Namibia and repairing a badly damaged barge. I also had a role in reactivating a floating sheerleg crane to re-enter service in compliance with the latest (sustainability) requirements.”

Dredging

Alessio just started his final trainee period at Boskalis’ Dredging division, playing a role in the impressive Manila International Airport project. He’s currently involved in preparing and mobilizing barges for dredging activities. But above all, he’s finding his way in the huge project team. “I got this assignment because of my background in shipbuilding, which is great. Boskalis gives me a lot of freedom to do my job, which is exactly what I need to develop myself. I’m looking forward to keep on doing so and work towards a superintendent position after the traineeship. One thing I know for sure: there are plenty of opportunities within Boskalis.”
