How you can make your mark
You can make your mark at projects located throughout the world, from Asia, Middle East and Brazil to Greece or Germany. The working atmosphere within Smit Salvage is informal and is characterized by teamwork, professionalism and entrepreneurship. You are up for a challenge, you like adventure and a dynamic international maritime working environment.
As emergency responses to vessels are unplanned, the role requires flexibility for being deployed to a project which could happen anytime, anywhere in the world.
On the project location, the shore coordinator acts as primary local contact for the operational team for logistics and equipment related matters and also financial-related aspects. These matters will vary in complexity depending on the nature of the project and the location. You will also make agreements (financial and otherwise) with local suppliers to facilitate contractual requirements with our customer. At the end of the project, you will manage the return logistic of the salvage equipment and the financial completion of the project by reporting on costs to Smit management and the customer.
Your responsibilities as a shore coordinator
- You will be responsible on the project location for the establishment of a logistical organization as well as for financial reporting on costs.
- Because of the ad hoc nature of the projects and the wide variety of project locations, the emphasis in this role will be on logistical organization. You will be the person with local responsibility for the logistical organization of colleagues (accommodation, transport) and equipment (customs, transport, procurement).
- You know what is happening on the project and have complete oversight into all commitments. You will draft straightforward financial reports on location that will be discussed with external and internal stakeholders. For this task, you will receive support from the office location.
- On a project, certain items or services are best procured locally for which the Shore Coordinator is responsible.
Your qualities
You can make your mark as shore coordinator if you:
- Have more than 3 years of working experience, preferably in an international maritime setting.
- Are hands-on, flexible, pro-active and a team player and are willing to travel/relocate on an irregular basis.
- Are willing to work on weekends and public holidays, with overtime and allowances compensated.
- Have a Bachelor degree, or equivalent education and ability.
- Have sound knowledge of Word and Excel and an excellent mastery of both written and spoken English.
