Boskalis.World is an advanced IT and data science platform that enables users to perform data-analyses based on centralized information sources and advanced data models. As Data Engineer you will improve the added value of the Boskalis.World platform by further developing, improving and maintaining our data processing and related models (i.e. geospatial time series data). You will be part of a data science team that is at the heart of our business and as such you will have frequent interactions with projects and operations. Your colleagues here will be using and relying on your data processing tools and models on a daily basis. Together with them you will discuss possible improvements and new features. Besides growing as a programmer and data engineer, you will get to know the ins and outs of high-profile international projects and the dynamics of the contractor world. You are a team player who knows how to interact smoothly with your colleagues all around the world.

Your responsibilities as Data Engineer are among others:
When starting your main tasks will be:

  • To develop new features for an existing python package.
  • To prepare code for parallelization and for cloud computing.
  • To create clear static and interactive data visualizations.

You will grow in your role and once you have yourself familiarized with the code and the cloud environment your main tasks will be:

  • To maintain and optimize the code.
  • To maintain and optimize the data lake.
  • To assist engineers and junior programmers in developing new features for the package.
  • To ensure that automated functions are running successfully in a cloud environment.

Your qualities

You can make your mark as Data Engineer if you have:

  • A Master’s degree in Engineering, Science or Mathematics.
  • At least 2 years of experience with python programming for science or engineering required.
  • Experience with analysis and visualization of geospatial data, timeseries data and environmental survey data is a preferred.
  • Experience with cloud computing is desired.
  • English is the project language and therefore it is required to be able to communicate in English both written and spoken.
  • Eager to grow and take responsibility for programming and data engineering
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced team environment.

Extra information

  • Your team: As Data Engineer you will work in a team of data scientists, data engineers and IT specialists. You will report to the Boskalis.World team leader. 
  • Where you will work: Normally a lot of your time will be spend from our office at Papendrecht and working from home is generally possible with regular visits to the project location., but due to Covid-19, for the meantime you will work from home and you will go the office when needed.
  • Fulltime/ part-time job: The position of Data Engineer is fulltime (40 hours a week).
