Your responsibilities as a salvage officer
In this role, you’ll be an essential part of our project teams—both behind the scenes and on the front line. Your key responsibilities include:
- Supporting salvage and wreck removal operations on site.
- Assisting in the development of recovery plans and operational procedures.
- Communicating with local authorities and stakeholders during active projects.
- Preparing detailed plans and procedures, acting as the vital link between the operations and planning teams.
- Contributing to tender submissions and project preparations with input on methodology and planning.
Your qualities
You can make your mark as salvage officer if you have:
- A degree in Maritime Studies or a related field.
- A strong command of English, both written and spoken.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
- A flexible mindset—willing to work weekends and public holidays when needed (with overtime and allowances provided).
- A global mindset and readiness to travel internationally on short notice.

- Your team: As a salvage officer you will work for SMIT Salvage Papendrecht. You will work for one of the largest salvage companies in the world. You are part of a team of several salvage officers. You will also work with various other colleagues who are part of the Salvage team.
- Where you will work: You will work at our office in Papendrecht and at project locations worldwide.
- Full-time: The salvage officer position is full-time (40 hours per week).
