How you can make your mark

Make your mark as an Able Bodied Seaman (AB) at Boskalis Westminster at one of our dredging projects in the UK. 

An Able Bodied Seaman helps provide support for the safe and efficient running of the vessel as directed by the Master.

Your responsibilities as an AB are:

  • Safety of the ship including acting as a look out in accordance with the MCA Regulations.
  • To ensure that the cleaning and maintenance of all areas of the vessel are adequately completed.
  • Assisting engineering staff as required.
  • Ensuring the completion and correct reporting of planned maintenance tasks as directed by mate or engineer.
  • Carrying out duties as watchman as required.
  • Anchoring work and mooring.
  • Carrying out such other duties as directed by the Master.
  • Carrying out galley duties as directed by the Master.
  • To be competent in the use of all deck equipment (crane, RIB, anchor windlass etc.)
  • To ensure that all adequate paperwork is completed as and when required.

Required Knowledge & Experience:

  • Right to Work in the UK
  • AB Ticket
  • Banksman Slinger
  • Anchor Handling / Multicat experience / Dredging Experience
  • A level of safety awareness in crews compliance 
  • The ability to maintain and achieve safety related KPI’s
  • Basic Sea Survival
  • Fire Fighting
  • ENG1

  • Your team: You will work in various teams around the UK.
  • Where you will work: This role is project based and you will work around the UK and Ireland. 
  • Full/part-time job:  The position of an AB is a full time job. Working schedule is 2 weeks on, 2 weeks off.
