Cadetship

Boskalis’ cadetship: kick-start your maritime career

Would you like to spend your sea phase on board one of Boskalis’ technologically advanced vessels and explore the world? Whether you’re training to become a deck officer, an engineering officer or an electro-technical officer, you’ll join a close-knit international team of driven professionals who are eager to teach you all they know. So earn and learn as a cadet at the world’s leading dredging and offshore energy fleet operator.

What is a cadetship?

The Boskalis cadetship combines practical on-the-job training at sea with studying at a maritime college. You’ll be working alongside experienced officers and contributing to real-life dredging or offshore energy projects.

If you want to embark on a steep learning curve, ask questions! On board our vessels, you will learn from the best. One of the senior officers will be your mentor. And you will have plenty of time to complete the tasks in your Training Record Book.

What cadetship routes does Boskalis offer?

At Boskalis, we train students from maritime colleges across the globe. Joining us for one of your 6-month sea phases, you will quickly gain valuable experience as a:

  • deck officer cadet, learning what it means to be responsible for the navigational and operational activities. Join the watch and assist with navigation, manoeuvring, maintaining safety and security, and deck maintenance.
  • engineering officer cadet, operating, maintaining and repairing the vessel’s many systems. These range from the vessel’s engines to deck equipment like cranes, dredging equipment and launch & recovery systems for e.g. ROVs and trenchers.
  • electro-technical officer (ETO) cadet, focusing on the complex onboard electrical and electronic systems, including navigation, communications and automation. You will help ensure that our systems run smoothly, carrying out maintenance and repairs.

Dredging and offshore energy: important work

At Boskalis, we offer cadetships in two very different, but extremely important services: dredging and offshore energy. We’re keen to match your background and interests with the right vessel.

What is dredging?

Our state-of-the-art dredgers drive land reclamation, e.g. for industrial and residential use, and coastal protection. Dredging is also crucial to building and improving ports and waterways. We ensure that the world’s biggest ships can continue to safely enter the world’s leading ports, including Singapore and Rotterdam.

In addition to our fleet of trailing suction hopper and cutter suction dredgers, the Dredging division is involved in securing critical infrastructure, such as subsea pipelines and cables. This is one of the roles of our rock dumping fall pipe vessels, which also strengthen monopile foundations.

What does Offshore Energy do?

Boskalis’ contributes to the development of offshore wind farms, and the installation and dismantling of oil and gas production platforms. Our heavy-lift DP2 vessels transport and install monopiles and jackets for offshore wind turbines. One of the projects we’re involved in is the Sunrise Wind project: the US’ largest offshore wind farm.

Other vessels in our fleet include construction support vessels, and cable laying vessels for telecommunication and power transmission cables. These vessels boast specialised equipment, including ploughs, trenchers and ROVs for deep-water operations.

Why choose Boskalis for your cadetship?

At Boskalis you’ll never stop learning. Our projects are as varied as our vessels, which will take you all over the world. We operate industry-leading vessels and leverage the latest technologies for high-end projects.

The large majority of our cadets return to Boskalis to pursue their careers, progressing through to Chief Engineer, ETO, or Chief Officer and even Captain

The reason our cadets join us after graduation? It’s the highly supportive, welcoming and friendly atmosphere that builds strong, unified teams of professionals from across the globe. Boskalis may be huge, but on board our vessels, you’re one of us and we take care of each other.
